Sound Work

Music + Sound Work

A small selection of different sound art and music/composition pieces, along with releases from some bands I’m in/collaborations I’ve been a part of.

Some Bandcamp links to releases at the bottom of the page, while individual tracks appear immediately below.

deptiva - Chamber Study for Soloist: Bass Clarinet, Flute, Daxophone, and Percussion (Meditation on Cardinal), 2026

8’06”

Multitracked solo improvisation using a looper and FX pedals, loosely inspired by the atmosphere contained within Philip Jeck’s 2015 album Cardinal. The piece starts gently before gradually gaining momentum, creating a sense of frenetic energy and locomotion.

Bass clarinet, concert flute, ting-sha, daxophone, noise box, looper, and FX.

deptiva - Trois Femmes, 2026

5’21”

For Cities and Memory‘s Spring Project 2026. Based on this original recording.

Built around a recording of the feminist collective Nous Toutes in Paris, who formed in 2018 to speak out against and draw attention to gender-based violence. For one hour every Saturday, the group speaks while sounding a klaxon at regular intervals; these intervals reflect the findings of a 2022 survey by the Ministère de l’Intérieur, which states that there is a rape or an attempted rape in France every 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

It felt important to step back and let the speaker’s words and the accompanying klaxons remain prominent and as clear as possible, so I added instrumentation gradually and with restraint. I initially focused on smoothing out some of the background noise, before moving on to building textures and drones until the voice steadily fades from the recording and the klaxon sounds once more.

With Bb clarinets, noise box, Dvina, and daxophone.

deptiva - Night drawing in across the estuary, 2026

6’33”

Childhood comforts and an icy memory.

Bb soprano clarinets, noise box, voice.

deptiva - A ship sails on at night/trade and empire, 2026

5’21”

A piece built around a recorded conversation taken from my archive, where the memory of a ship silently passing along the Thames near the Port of Tilbury is recounted, before the discussion moves to thoughts of industry, trade, and the river’s part in creating an empire.

Performed with four Bb soprano clarinets, a daxophone, piano, an ocean drum, and a wooden noise box with sand paper, tines, and springs.
